Effective Management of Suppliers Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Effective Management of Suppliers - Assignment Example The inaccuracies in bidding can be costly to the respondent or lead to losses to the tendering firm. Introduction and Articulation of the problem A tender is handled as an offer to perform some work for a certain sum of money (firm price), or a certain quantity of benefit (cost plus or cost reimbursement). The tender which is presented by the competing companies is usually based on an invoice of amounts, an invoice of estimated quantities or other requirements which allow the tenders to obtain greater degrees of accuracy or precision which is known as the statement of work. The tendering procedure is widely used in both the public and private sector for the purchase of products or services often referred to as the procurement process. Both the respondent and the tendering party need to be careful of guaranteeing the precision of the certification interchanged and claims made during the tendering and procurement procedure. Where a declaration is found to be incorrect or deceiving, a wide and common legal disclaimer as to the precision of the declaration will be inadequate to get over such a finding. The exchange of information, in the tendering procedures, especially in the viewpoint of discussing and identifying costs will be appropriate in an evaluation of the issues where a following claim of deceptive and misleading conduct occurs in regards to the original documentation of the tender. The choice in tendering demonstrates the significance of guaranteeing the precision and completeness of details included in tender records and otherwise offered during a tendering procedure as well as representations made during that procedure. The attention of this requirement has often existed for the concerned individuals planning the proposal but organisations using the process of tendering to entice providers need to also be cautious in guaranteeing the details they provide to prospective bidders at the pre-contract level and during the process of tendering is not dec eiving in any way. Accuracy in the bidding process should be upheld because the work may be overvalued leading to the party offering the work paying more for the job while they could have incurred lesser costs. The tender may also be valued at a lower price than it should leading to the firm offering the job incur losses or make insignificantly small profit. Besides pricing, there is need for accuracy when specifying the time you will take to complete the tendered job. Accurately setting a date will mean that there will be ease in meeting the specified deadline. Literature review An estimate can be precise, low or great. A precise estimate usually results in the most cost-effective project price. In cases of either an underestimation or an overestimation, it often results in higher actual expenses. According to Aibinu and Pasco (2008), causes of inaccurate estimates in the project may occur from two places: prejudice linked with the project itself and prejudice associated with the c alculation methods used and the working environment Preparing the cost estimate of the work is one of the most challenging tasks in managing a project because it has to be done before the accomplishment of the project (Oberlender 1993). Estimation of the price of establishing projects requires extensive skills and knowledge. Because of insufficient design details in the early stages of the design, it is particularly hard for quantity surveyors to arrive at an accurate price estimate. A

Soap opera Essay Example for Free

Soap opera Essay Every soap uses lots of different camera shots and angles. First of all there is the reverse shot, this is used when two people are talking, tends to be head and shoulders shot. The second one is the medium shot; this is usually head, shoulders and half of a body on the shot. This is normally used when three people are talking, example, at the bar in the Rovers Return. The third shot is the tracking shot, this is used when the characters are moving, i. e. walking or running. This is usually a full body shot. It can be of more than one person. This was used on the live 40th anniversary episode when it first started. The fourth shot is the zoom, this is when the camera gets closer or further away from a character, e. g. when Sarah-Lou found out that she was pregnant. The fifth shot is called a pan; this is to ensure a long broad view of a whole area. It can also move side to side. This was used in the very first episode of Coronation Street. When Kens dad passed his wife a cup of tea, it didnt just switch from one person to another. The fifth shot is called the tilt, this is when the camera tilts up and down. In the 40th year episode of Coronation Street they did a live episode. The two main narrative strands were, Whether they were going to save the cobbles, and Whether Vera was going to survive. I think they used these storylines because the producers wanted the whole of the cast to appear in the episode. Some of the speeches had double meanings. When Ken said, Long live coronation street, he is talking about the street but I know that he wants the programme to go on for another forty years. Also when the whole cast is singing, We shall not, we shall not be moved, they are trying to save the cobbles but also they want to stay in Coronation street as there characters. Ken Barlows son came and we know this is going to be the start of a new story line. Then Vera wakes, this is a storyline resolved. When Curly went into the pub to tell all the characters that Vera had woken up, they all cheered, this shows that Vera is a well-respected character. At the end of the episode, when Ken says, We did it, he means that they have saved the cobbles, but also he means that they had finished the episode with success. The actors seemed genuinely happy, not acting. For Australian soap operas, theme tunes are accompanied by lyrics. They have unrealistic storylines. Neighbours and Home and Away have lots of teenagers who do not seem to have parents. For British soap operas the theme tune is easily recognisable type of music. This lets you know when the programme is on if you are in another room. The brass band type of music lets you know it is northern. Piano and drums let you know that it is cockney, i. e. Eastenders. In every soap, which has, adverts every time before a break it has a question. E. g. when the break came on, on the live episode the question before the break was whether Vera was going to survive or not. Advertisers like to put their adverts on during prime time television i. e. coronation street because they know that millions of people will be watching the programme. In coronation street the producers and directors deliberately uses the northern dialect. This makes it easily identifiable to a Lancashire place. Standard English is a way of speaking without using a regional accent or dialect. The reason we have Standard English is to make sure every country understands each other. I have been looking at a 1995 coronation street script, and the differences in the language of the script compared with Standard English are completely different. The script is written in everyday speech for it to show that it is typical northern town talk. The unusual thing about the script is that it uses typical northern accent and dialect. At the start of the script Vera says, I could do with some crudities. Then Jack says, its a Christening not a flaming stag night. Now Jack and Vera had a different meaning to the word crudities. Vera means raw vegetables but Jack thought she meant things like strippers. This shows that Jack is common because he misunderstood the word crudities. Also when Vera says, who were that on phone? this shows a strong, northern phrase. This phrase is dramatically incorrect. In the 1940s films they used strong, sharp, clip Standard English. The queen, how she speaks now was old Standard English. Zoi Ball says, Rilly Gid instead of, Really Good. This is Received Pronunciation and this is starting to filter up throughout the country. Despite soap operas being popular because it is centred on women, there is some evidence to show more, that soaps are focussing more frequently on storylines outside the domestic plots such as crime. Additionally the storylines have recently focused on male characters as in Eastenders, Ian Beale fought to get his children back and in Coronation Street Jim McDonald had to face the consequences when his son got in a lot of trouble with drug dealer, Jed Quigley. Finally, other possible reasons for soap operas popularity could be escapism or relaxation. At the end of the day the viewer can sit down, relax and watch an episode of Coronation Street, and escape from the problems of reality, and think about characters problems instead. Most significantly though, soap operas concern with the everyday people and their problems, big and small, appears to be one of the main reasons why this genre is so popular.

Pc Gaming And Console Gaming Media Essay

Pc Gaming And Console Gaming Media Essay Not too long ago were computers the only place to turn to, to play games online. One of the first consoles to get online capability was the Sega Dreamcast, which then paved the way for other consoles. The Dreamcast unfortunately was not successful and the company went out of business, because it could no longer support it. In 2002, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube where among the first to introduce online abilities. With the popularity, the developers knew that online capability was what gamers wanted and consoles were being made with online capability and it became a successful system. Online games are very common in the gaming world, with Microsofts Xbox Live service leading the way with 23 million registered users. Sony has some tricks up there sleeve, and has big plans for the PlayStation 3, consoles are starting to get game downloads only available on the PC. A few titles can now be played across systems, Final Fantasy XI uses this system and people with PS2, PC, and Xbox 360 can all explore the same world simultaneously. However, Computers still have the largest selection of online games. Some of the most popular games in the world are exclusive to the PC only. Games such as World of Warcraft and Counter Strike Source make up 40% of online PC gamers. There are many things to think about before deciding which device you want to buy. You have to decide what type of games you want to play, and how much money you are willing to spend, and if you need a computer for other things besides gaming. Preferably, we would all have a PC and a console, but unless youre bill gates, then a comparison of the two is needed. Multiplayer gaming has been made easy with Sony and Microsoft offering online services for their products. The PS3, and Xbox comes equipped with a network card right out of the box, making it a simple hook up to High Speed Internet connection to get into multiplayer games on Xbox Live. With Xbox Live players are able to play with people around the country rather than having to play the AI, or have to go through the hassle of inviting friends over to play. You are able to trash talk your opponents if they you where in the same room. These things are possible on a computer, but consoles are built for this right out of the box. The biggest reason PC gaming isnt bigger than console gaming is mainly the cost. Most consoles today sell for less than $500 unless its within the first couple months of release, often with a couple games included. A PC around the same graphical power as an Xbox 360, or a PS3 can cost double the price of the console. On the PC, you have a very large range of often options everywhere you look. . Prices for a high-end PCs can get expensive very quickly A desktop can start at anywhere from $1,500 to $1,700. Not that you have to spend that much but, if youre going to spend time gaming on a PC, shouldnt you make the experience worthwhile? And, that startup cost presents a serious drawback for a lot of people (Charlie Deitch, Cityweekly.net). Everything in a PC is customizable to fit the gamers needs. You can pick and chose what you want to be in your computer, and when newer technology comes out you have the power to upgrade your computer if you want to. The second most obvious advantage is simplicity. PC Gaming can be a nightmare when trying to install games. People with Xboxes or PS3s can take their newly purchased game home and be playing within a matter of minutes. There are no graphics cards to set up or motherboard drivers to update, you have the assurance that your game will work on your system unlike a computer. Console games are rented out more frequently than PC games, and more easily returned if you do not like them. It is hard to return computer games because they are easy to copy, and resale. The other problem with renting PC games they run off a CD/DVD with a serial code only working one time, so its not possible to Rent these games or return them. You have to take this into consideration when looking at the games available for both platforms. You will be able to rent games you dont want to buy, and if you do indeed buy the game you are able to return it and get something else if you are not satisfied. With the PC your return will just be simply rejected. Although sealing everything in one unit does seem like a good idea, when some of the components inside the box become out-dated there is no way to upgrade your console, or even repair your system without voiding a warranty. If you void your warranty by opening your system to try and upgrade or repair yourself then you can no longer send your Xbox in for repair meaning you have to buy a new one if you cant fix it yourself. The only safe choice you have to repairing your system is sending it back to the manufacture and waiting 4-6 weeks to get your system back. Consoles perform only one task really well; while PCs can be a wide variety of things. Some manufactures are trying to make consoles more flexible, but it is clear that it will be a long time before consoles will be able to run applications like the PC does. Keyboards use many more keys to do the same tasks you can do on a controller, but PCs offer a lot more control of the game, but it comes at a cost of hours of tutorials and practicing at the game. There is an obvious lack of connectivity between the different consoles. A lot of the games are only available to a specific type of system, which means you can only play other people who own the same system as you. This means that if you have an Xbox and your friend has a PS3 it will not be possible for you to play with each other, another example is that there is no way for a person with a PS3 to jump the countless PC World of Warcraft servers available. The PS3 has made some progress in this area, paving the way for multi platform gaming between PS3, Xbox and PC users, but there are only a couple of titles that support this, and there done very poorly. The PS3 and Xbox both have online potential and online connection is needed for these systems. But for a good effect while most people purchase a PS3 is because the online play is for free of charge. On the other hand Xbox games and or the online play are charged to the owner monthly, or yearly. These monthly charges abide from 1 month, 3 months, or a 12 month value. PC does hold many more games than console games because PC can come at a less cheap price. Also, the games do not cost as much to make as in a console game. Another big advantage PCs have over consoles is that you can use them for other things besides playing games; you can edit and create your own maps for the playing field that you want to play on. But according to the gaming magazines PCs remain ahead of the gaming world browsing from better graphics, pictures, and making more ability to have the game literally in the palm of your hand. Computer monitors are found with high promise and the most recent include for a processors powerful game system. Though when a game is released, its impossible for a company to go back and alter this game and make it better. Online gaming helps people connect to people all from around the world and interact with different variety of individuals. Different brands of computers and software generally communicated pretty well with each other. This differs from services like Xbox Live, and PS3 online. It is your only option if you want to play online, and you must have that system to play online, it is closed to everyone else that doesnt own the system you have. As your PC ages, you have the power to extend its gaming life, you can add new graphics cards, new processors, or more memory. This is not possible on a console giving the PC a huge advantage. Even though PCs prices have come down in the recent years, they are still a lot more expensive to even the most expensive console. There are ways to cut the cost on a PC, like building it yourself or ordering a gaming computer through 3rd party companies rather than Dell or Gateway; even then the prices of a PC are a lot more than a console. PCs are becoming a little less confusing, coming with more tutorials, but eventually the gamer will come upon some type of complication that interferes with their games, be it a video card driver that needs updating or components that are to new or old for games. The fact of the matter is, you arent 100% sure that a game will run perfect on your system like you can count on with a console. You never have the assurance that your game is going to run smoothly until youre actually playing the game you can no longer return, and even then you have to worry about the game crashing or choppy game play. Unlike many console games, PC games have the capability to get extremely difficult. While this can give a game depth, it can also result in many various arrays of keyboard commands and overly lengthy tutorials which one must complete in order to play the game. PC games are usually not ideal for playing on the couch, especially when the mouse and keyboard are the preferred over console controllers for first person shooting games The most recent release of consoles has a lot to offer online gamers, and if youre into sports games and racing games, then a console would be your best option. If you like playing with hundreds of other people exploring one world simultaneously or first person shooting games, then there is a great deal more to choose from on the computer. Everyday Xbox Live and PS3 are getting better, but monthly fees and service charges are still very evident, and this is very unattractive to customers. Mostly PCs are still the leading option for online gaming, and it seems as if that will continue in the future.

Enron and its Shortcomings Essay -- essays research papers

Enron’s overall business practices are not ethical. One business practice of Enron that I think poses an ethical issue is their attitude towards its employees. They create a highly competitive and a result oriented business atmosphere. They used a system where they would rank employees every half a year and fire employees who ranked on the bottom 1/5 of the scores. This kind of attitude where only results matter and if you don’t produce anything good you will get fired will only hurt the company. This promotes unethical behavior and getting what needs to be done to get good results no matter what and if you do well you will receive big bonuses. This approach towards Enron’s employees did not have very good utilitarian reasoning. This doesn’t help employees morale and psychological satisfaction. The cost of this kind of approach was very low because in fact you will weed out the slackers but the results Enron had where employees afraid to question unethica l situations in Enron in fear of their jobs.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Another section of Enron’s business practice that is definitely not ethical is their accounting methods. In a technical aspect their accounting methods were fine, but this was only because of a loophole. Andrew S. Fastow was described as a financial whiz kid because of these loopholes that he knew how to take advantage of. Some of these things that he, and Enron, were able to take advantage of were the setups of special purpose entities. They would setup these special purpose entities and have either their friends or employees to invest in these special purpose entities so that Enron my say that their debts and liabilities are actually under the special purpose entities and not of Enron. This made it look like Enron didn’t have as much debt as it should have had. A second practice in the accounting methods that were not ethical was their manipulation of their revenue. What they did was to make either their earnings more or inflating their stock. They would make sure that any potential deals that could make money in the future they wrote down in the books in the present, which is not a good accounting practice. Also they used sham swaps with other companies that would buy products and services with each other to make it look like they where making sales and money, when in fact that all they did was trade some assets and wrote a sale.... ...d of the day. Enron’s legal responsibility was low while their economic responsibility was relatively high. They wanted to make money but they where doing it the illegal way, and because of this their social responsibility was just terrible. In the end of the company no matter what was done all the illegal actions were catching up to them and this showed to the world how irresponsible Enron was. They were not socially responsible to any of their stakeholder. The stocks fell and their company went into bankruptcy, many people lost money. Employees lost their jobs and life earnings, and because Enron was a huge company the end of Enron had a ripple affect. All other companies that worked with Enron lost business and they might have had to cut back on costs. Customers lost because they didn’t have the services of Enron, a company that deals with electricity, water, broadband, pulp, paper, and lumber. Creditors had to write off loads of bad debt because Enron would not be able to pay it back. Companies should take a look at Enron’s approach to business and learn that you need to responsibly balance all three responsibilities of business to have a successful business in today’s world.

Legal Issues in Interviewing

I would never try to pronounce the name the way Lance did. I would simply ask how to pronounce the candidate's name. I would then ask the candidate to tell me a little about themselves. This is the part the usually will disclose where they are from, if they have children, married or not, where they went to school, and their interests. 2. Incarceration Insult: If I felt that the candidate may have a criminal record I would then discuss the back ground check that will be performed. Hopefully this Is when the candidate will speak up If they do have a criminal back ground. . Elderly Error: I don't see why this is coming up in the interview anyways. This is an inappropriate question and should never be asked. If the interviewer feels that he or she should know this information then they should have the candidate fill out an application that will have them put their DOBB down and then Just do the math. 4. Medical Muddle: How Lance words this Is again unprofessional and Inappropriate. An e asier way to may ask the candidate If there Is anything that may restrict them in doing any of the work duties that they are applying for. . Offspring Offense: This is important information to know but the key is how to word the question without offending anyone. I would explain that the Job will have some demanding hours and shifts. I would further explain that they may have to cover and work doubles or work evening hours. Then I would ask them if there was anything that would prevent them for being able to work these hours. 6. Interview. 7. Language Louse-Up: This again was very unprofessional and irrelevant. I would check the resume to see if the candidate is bilingual. If so I would then ask him what languages and leave that subject at that. 8. Pregnancy Problem: If the candidate is fit for the position and will do well with the company I would offer the job and then discuss maternity leave with the candidate. 9. Racial Rudeness: Asking anything that is related to the candidate's race is irrelevant and unprofessional. I would never ask anything like this. 10. Religious Ruckus: Again this is an inappropriate question that does not need to be asked or brought up.I loud give her the information regarding paid holidays if it got to that point in the interview and let her know if she needs a different holiday that is not listed then she can feel free to use her vacation time for this holiday. I think that if I was ever in an interview with Lance and he asked me the questions like he did in the video I would definitely cut the interview short and ask to speak to his supervisor. Most questions asked in this video were done very condescending and rude. Most likely Lances superiors have no idea that this is how interviews candidates.

School Is A Place To Learn -Education Essay

School Is A Place To Learn -Education Essay Free Online Research Papers School Is A Place To Learn -Education Essay School is a place for us to learn knowledge and skills. Therefore, the environment will effect our learning a lot. AT last term, there is a new construction on our new hall. If that new school hall is constructed, it will effect our school environment a lot because of the ground shaking during the construction and limited school ground when construction si in place. Ground shaking of construction effect our school environment a lot because the noise makes us can’t concentrate on the work. The noise also makes the teacher very hard to teach because they have to shout over the noise in order for student to listen clearly. For example, you are writing when the whole building is shaking. Not only has this will making your writing go suddenly out of shape. The stationary will also fall on the ground. I think the school should do the digging of the old hall concrete after school time. In that case, fewer students will be affected. The second reason why the construction of the new hall affect school environment is because of the limited space during construction because student is not allow to get into construction zone. This lowers the useful ground of our school and also makes our whole school suddenly run out of space. The limited space in school will bring a lot of trouble to teachers because they wouldn’t be able to use the front parking any more. Student of music also have to go through a â€Å"hole† in the fence in order to reach. This also take long to walk and very dangerous for student to walk into construction zone. I think the construction should be more faxable by making more â€Å"holes† and also should make a place for teachers to park. In this case, this will safe a lot of time during class so the student will a have a chance to learn more In conclusion, I think the construction of the new school hall affect the school environment because there is huge ground shaking when they are taking out the concrete and limited space while constructing bring trouble to student. However it is always good to have a new hall that can put all the student form f.3 to f.7 in. It is also good to have a new hall because the old hall is old and sometimes the microphone in there doesn’t work well Research Papers on School Is A Place To Learn -Education EssayStandardized TestingHip-Hop is ArtThe Spring and AutumnPersonal Experience with Teen PregnancyQuebec and CanadaThe Hockey GameHarry Potter and the Deathly Hallows EssayGenetic EngineeringEffects of Television Violence on ChildrenCapital Punishment
